This time I informed the police who I understand took decisive action. I thank the UK police for that. I am still capturing the faces of the individuals involved and will begin to post them online as race-hate fascists.

Conjecture, Contemplation, Meditation – their differences

Meditation has become a go-to for those seeking refuge from stress, anxiety, emotional turmoil and anger. The term is strewn around like confetti. Its ubiquity masks the complete lack of understanding of what it is and mean. People speak about meditation as if it were a portal into a magical state of consciousness, into which they need only dip a toe in order to access calm, balance and a lower blood pressure. Nowadays everyone is an expert on this thing called meditation, whose value is measured in its empirical impact on their lives. 

Listening to all the noise generated about meditation I reflect that ignorance, in this case, is not bliss. It is time to put a stop to the petty commercialization around it and to the idea that it is a bar snack one reaches out for and grabs while having a drink. The fact is there is no ‘meditation’ in the sense in which it is mindlessly thought about, pontificated about and supposedly practiced. Meditation is not a one size fits all panacea to life’s stresses and strains. And it certainly can’t be self-taught. One doesn’t simply practice meditation. You enter it only after years of intensive training under exacting supervision by a higher being. These beings don’t go around getting certificated to ‘teach’ meditation and they don’t hold classes. 

Furthermore, one only enters the realm of meditation via contemplation, which in turn is entered via conjecture.

Conjecture is the environment where your thoughts come to debate. Thoughts don’t exist in the realm of meditation, contrary to what you are told. That whole thing about watching your thoughts come and go is nonsense. Only in conjecture are there thoughts and even then you don’t watch them float by. Rather, you evaluate them, choose between them, selecting a thought that will yield the best possible outcome for you. Being with our thoughts is part of everyday life, a default setting that allows us to navigate our daily concerns and realities. 

Not convinced?

Think of a candle. Picture it in your mind. Is there just one candle, or two, three, even four? Is/Are the candle(s) lit? In which direction do/does the flame(s) flicker? Do they all flicker in the same direction? What is the backdrop to all this? Now, open your eyes slowly. Has the image vanished? If yes, then start all over again. For those who retained the image you must now register the sounds around you. Your attention is divided, yes, between the image of the candle(s) and your sensory environment? Can you keep hold of the image now, or is it going slowly out of focus, dissolving? If yes, then I’m afraid you have to start all over again. For those who can retain the candle image while heeding the sounds around themselves, you now have to also pay attention to the flow of thoughts registering their presence, and be able to sift through them and evaluate their significance and worth. Can’t do it? Then it’s back to the beginning. If you have managed all of this, you now have to additionally focus on the sound of the candle(s) flickering flames. If you can’t identify and differentiate them, start all over again. 

This is what is passed off as meditation. It is, in fact, the realm of conjecture. 

Conjecture is difficult to master, let alone transcend. Western dabblers in eastern mysticism – lacking the humiliation, humility and humbleness that is to be their life’s constant state – think that a few sessions of so-called practice is enough to return home with and set up a class. In those classes, they extract cash from wealthy wannabes who want to enter the portal of calmness, and who mimic their conceit that a bit of practice and a certificate equips them to guide others and save the world. 

An analogous situation is found in yoga: Money-grabbing, get-rich-quick individuals are teaching yoga. But it isn’t your ordinary yoga. No. It is kundalini yoga. The same kundalini yoga that is traditionally never taught to all and sundry but is passed only from high being to disciple. The yoga being taught at a class near you is standard everyday yoga, but calling it so doesn’t generate wealth; it has to be sexed up – hence, kundalini yoga. And the primary exporter of all this was the person who knew nought about yoga and managed to dupe millions – none other than Yogi Harbhajan Singh. 

Meditation as ‘taught’ and ‘learned’ today reflects what we see happening to yoga. Its all about liars selling lies to suckers who lap up being lied to. 

Reverting…

If what is widely and falsely acknowledged as meditation is in fact conjecture – as I illustrated above using the example of the candle(s) – then what is the transition pathway from conjecture to meditation proper? Well, it is a pathway that stops at the realm of contemplation first. And I am not going to share with you the process or details of the pathway. 

I will, however, give you a tantalizing insight. 

You’ll recall the exercise with the candle(s) that forms part of the realm of activity in conjecture. Well, one aspect of the realm of contemplation requires you to look at the candle(s) and listen to the noise that each flame makes while immersing yourself in music of your choice, watching a television programme with alertness and interest, paying attention to the outside world and its sounds and goings-on all, all while maintaining perfect posture. 

(I re-introduced a lotus position a few decades ago without sharing the exact positioning involved. I note that students use the same posture, though their execution of it is wrong. In fact, I re-introduced three postures several decades ago that are now in vogue and which are practiced widely but imprecisely – for the same reason, that I didn’t share the minutiae of how to practice them. Indeed, every single posture has its own deep history, context, meaning and purpose. Without comprehensive understanding of all of this, a posture is rendered meaningless and is thus incapable of delivering the full latent energy contained within. Lacking knowledge and clarity, a posture is reduced to an acrobatic exercise.)

Reverting…

Contemplation is a state defined by your ability to focus on only progressive dharmic principles, one at a time, and merge into the essence of that environment without falling out of sync with the organic surrounding world. This indicates you are graced.

Intense training is required to enter the realm of contemplation and unless a high being graces your journey then it is impossible to not be overwhelmed by anger, arrogance, vanity and thoughts of revenge.

Once contemplation is achieved and sustained permanently, many adherents will be selected to have their bio-structure altered so they are reborn as docile fauna or long-living flora. (It is an extremely misleading and ego-based concept to believe that humans are the highest order of creation on this planet.) Here they wait, until instructed to be reborn as human and help dictate human events.

First conjecture, and then contemplation have to studied in-depth. It takes several lifetimes of continuous and committed study to realise the vastness of the subjects and to make progress. 

Given that each human birth comes after several thousands of years of taking birth as a non-human, the chance you will recall a lesson learned in a previous human life is well-nigh impossible. Unless you have been graced by a higher being. 

Having said that, there are two bodily organs that are critical in aiding one’s pathway from conjecture to contemplation and thence meditation. The first is the skin – more precisely, it’s pigment. Caucasian skin is a regressive and abnormal pigment, a serious anti-meditation organ. It is the portal through which lower, restricted, ungraced bio-forms enter the human birth chain; and the pigment which those people, who have fallen from their high statuses, are given as a reprimand. Darker skin pigments are progressive. They give one the ability to absorb meditation-energy more easily. The other organ paramount in helping one enter meditation is hair – specifically, the retention of one’s bodily hair. Hair has a special and divine purpose, albeit that many consider body hair unfashionable and even disgusting.

Now, you might be wondering who – given the stringent conditions for progression – actually make the cut 

Amongst Caucasians the likes of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Master Eckhart, Ludwig Feuerbach and Nietzsche have reached the higher echelons of conjecture as evidenced by the body of thought they produced. 

In the east, Adi Shankara, Sri Aurobindo, Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore have progressed further, attaining the middle stratum of contemplation. But none of them merged into meditation. 

Escape from the pain, misery and darkness of rebirth – where one is always the victim of circumstances – comes only after one has endured and does not react at all. Such humility eventually (though not always) evolves into humbleness. Mastering humbleness is critical to accessing higher strata within conjecture (as did the Caucasians mentioned earlier) and contemplation (as per the eastern personages mentioned earlier), and eventually meditation. 

Certainly, out of the public gaze there walk among us those with deeper (progressive) skin pigment who have attained and remain within the realm of meditation – and who have thence advanced into samadhi even. They are accompanied by the grace of higher beings. And they walk silently and with humbleness among us. 

So, I would say, put your money away and stop lining the pockets of meditation-charlatans. You cannot learn to meditate. All you can claim to be doing is attempting to achieve a higher state of conjecture than the one we naturally inhabit everyday and to achieve a more stable bio-rhythm. Unfortunately and inaccurately this is all termed ‘meditation’ when it frankly is not.

That said, I do commend you if you are tying to make some progress, even if your terminology is wrong and your sense of achievement is more imagined than real. For, only by attempting to progress can you open yourself to the opportunity to actually progress. Just don’t call what you do meditation!
